Donkey Font LeBron

While I should be working, I felt I had earned the right to post some more stuff I managed to churn out over the weekend. The one on the left is a gem that was rejected by my graphic design instructor for failing to stay true to the spirit of the Type project that I’m currently working on. The concept for that particular piece was “playful” and what could be more playful than classic Donkey Kong, rendered entirely in Ultra Bodoni typeface? Since I’d sunk a fair amount of time into it yesterday I figured I shouldn’t just bury it in the mess that is my Art & Photos folder. It might become a little more polished if I can find some way to squeeze more time out of my bones. That’s actually what marrow is made out of. TIME.

The suspect on the right has been a long time in the making. Sort of. I had started probably a year or so ago, worked on it diligently for a day or two, and then abandoned it. I came back to it on Saturday with a fresh mind set, trashed a lot of the original elements, and industriously churned out what I think is a very nice homage to the unstoppable force that is LeBron James. Since it was an image for members of the Columbus Cavs page started up by Ran, I made sure to include the Route 23 sign. The Skyline shot in the background is a portrayal of beeeea-utiful downtown Cleveland. Ran had made mention of possibly turning that print into shirts, and I have to say that I’m not opposed to the idea. Also,  since the image was originally designed as a desktop wallpaper, it’s still available for that purpose in widescreen 1680×1050. You know how to find me if you want it.

On Saturday night I had been looking for something interesting to get into and was coming up a bit short. In a bout of beggars being choosy I turned down Steven’s double bladed offer of going to Lawrence to see a band from California called Limbeck and/or going dancing with Jessica and her friends at some place where dancing things happen. Now I consider myself pretty open when it comes to music, but I prefer being exposed to it in the relative free-ness of my own home as opposed to the $$ I’d shell out to see a band live. And the dancing thing sounded like a complete embarrassment waiting to happen. I’ve heard that when girls go dancing they make a sort of tribal circle and, with much gnashing of teeth and ritual blood-letting, they try their damnedest to ward off males. I think it’s a girl power thing. All I know is that it sounded a little like jamming my hand into a bee hive and expecting something good to come of it. All that, and I don’t dance. I Ninja. Or iNinja. Copyright. Trademark. 2008. Me.

So I pursued a different path. I’ve kind of been jonesing for some bowling lately so I had asked Heath if he was down for that. He made a few phone calls. Things didn’t sound promising, until I heard him say something about cage fighting. Turns out there was an Elite Fight League event going down at the KC National Guard Armory. I was sold. I think that they use the term Elite more to sound cool than to define the actual ability of the fighters, but that’s neither here nor there. It was a fun event, and I got to see some disgusting looking knockouts, and I think one guy fainted while on the ground getting pummeled with punches. I say he fainted because he wasn’t really getting hit anywhere that would knock a person out, mostly scattered blows around the body as the fighter on top was trying to work for better position. Then the guy on the bottom stopped moving. I had asked the winning fighter what had happened to the guy and he said that he wasn’t even sure. Fainter.

Double Helix wiki Clutch Poster

I stumbled across this draft from a long ass time ago in a land far away. I’ve decided to purge my WordPress dashboard of it, expelling it onto the web with all the care that a new mother gives to passing a placenta. It might pick up a thing or two as it gets kicked around the cold linoleum of the hospital floor.

So while browsing google analytics for my site I found that I’ve been getting quite a few referrals from wowinsider.com. Following the referring link led me back to a druid macro guide in which wowinsider’s David Bowers used my blizzard fanart. Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

I had been talking with friend Jessica about inaccuracies of wikipedia. I had meant to bring this little find up as an example, but something told me that saying the words big, hairy, and penis while in a coffee shop full of ladies might get me a few sideways glances. I still have the original screencap if there are any non-believers out there.

School is kind of kicking my teeth in. Not in a terrible way, at least not as of yet. But enough to make me miss out on updating my website. Speaking of which I threw up a new folder in the gallery by the name of “graphic design.” I put my first project from my GD Production class in there. I hope to get the trailer for Johnny Appleseed up and linked to at some point as well.

Anansi Boys beckons to me. More when I can.
