Minor Adjustments

Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008

So you might have noticed that the page looks a little different. I needed some change. If you mouse over the image, the alt tag should explain it properly. It might take two or more mouseovers to read it since it’s a bit lengthy for an alt tag.

Additionally, I accidentally trashed all the comments from the previous two posts. I’ve been getting slammed with spam in my moderation queue and while moderating I somehow found myself moderating all comments instead of just those in the queue. I hit the stop button. It’s funny that WordPress seems to lag a lot in updating, making one think that if the stop button was hit, that those changes wouldn’t be made. At least I found this to be untrue.

I do have a backup of the database, and I could try to restore those comments, but I think it would be more trouble than it’s worth. Although I would like to have that one comment from Futile.com back. Ah well.

Conservative Less conservative

So here are my two podcast image options side by side. On the left we have the more conservative B&W logo based partly on the header image for Tiny Gods, on the right is my more radical growing image idea, currently populated with a tiny Ganesh, Nightmare, Buddy Jesus, classic controller, Salacious Crumb, mini Pac-Man machine and mostly obscured MTG box. Preferences, thoughts, comments, criticisms on which to keep going with? Lay em out.

Oh and I almost forgot. Buy my Shirts.

UPDATE: Option three has been added, for those who didn’t like the “busyness” (business?) of the photo option. I quite liked the photo. It seemed to encompass a lot of what the Tiny Gods are all about…

Viva la Independencia!

So I’ve been poking around the Internet all morning trying to solve a few problems, one of which was my lack of a visual Flickr RSS widget. I had realized a while back that having text links to photos required those photos to have really intriguing titles, and naming photos in Flickr is the least of my concerns. Having the picture? Well that’s worth a thousand words, and I don’t think that anyone would want me to frame up 4 boxes of a thousand words each and try to put them in my sidebar. I think the current solution is much more efficient. If only the photos were randomized.

The current flickr plugin being employed is Eightface’s flickrRSS which is definitely the least difficult of the plugins I wrestled with this morning. I tried Futile’s Silverlight plugin which then demanded that I install Silverlight, and after it caused Firefox to crash a few times I found that the plugin simply didn’t work. There was plugin that seemed promising over at random.geek, only it hadn’t been updated for quite a while and caused my widget dashboard to explode with formatting errors. I guess I’ll settle for Eightface’s functional, if less random solution.

The other problem I fixed this morning was Firefox’s lack of 3 finger swipe browsing on multi-touch touchpads. Safari’s only apparent advantage over Firefox was that it natively used the three finger swipe to page forward or backward while browsing. Thanks to a little program called Multiclutch I was able to bind the necessary page forward and backward commands to the 3 finger swipe functions in Firefox. Now I’m three finger swiping like a clepto who had a bad run-in with a paper cutter some years back.

I’m putting this out there for anyone not in the know. Tinygods. We’ve got a podcast now. The Tiny Godcast. Listen. Love it. Learn to love it.

In anticipation of the release of Spore I purchased the Spore creature creator. Heath monkeyed around with it a bit and made some, um, monkeys. Or things that look sort of like monkeys. Balloon animal monkeys. With antlers on their asses. I’ll try to get some screenshots together and share them with you. Or you can visit my personal Spore page at….I’m not sure what the address is, but once I find it, by gum, I’ll post it here.

Doncha goa burnn’ yehselves down nah, yutes.
